Single-phase Variable Frequency Drive for Livelihood Applications

Backed by a market research study, field visits, and incorporating suggestions from its members, CLEAN has concluded that the decentralised renewable energy (DRE) sector lacks a single-phase power supply application to meet livelihood and domestic motorised loads (Potential loads listed in Annexure 1). It also concluded that remote and rural locations have only single-phase supply. To find a solution to the issue, CLEAN pursued the development of a single-phase motorised application and testing of the prototype.
2018-10-03T05:16:13+00:00
About the Project If a solar system needs to be designed for a motorised application, the whole system (inverter-based) needs to be over-designed (battery, inverter, and panel design doubled) to cope with the high starting current requirement (which can be as high as 5 to 7 times of the running current). However, such an over-design is not a recommended solution because the cost will be high. Therefore, to reduce the starting current, a single-phase variable frequency drive (VFD) is proposed. At present, only three-phase VFD is available in the market, which can be coupled with a three-phase motor. As a solution, CLEAN facilitated the development of single-phase VFD. Proposed Intervention The single-phase VFD of 2 hp will have a single-phase input and single-phase output VFD, which will substitute a single-phase motor. Additionally, VFD with features like AC

Draft National Energy Policy

Energy is acknowledged as a key input towards raising the standard of living of citizens of any country, as is evident from the correlation between per capita electricity (a proxy for all energy forms) consumption and Human Development Index (HDI).

Guidelines for Accreditation, Affiliation and Continuous Monitoring of Training Centres for the Skill Ecosystem

Skills and knowledge are the motivating forces of the financial growth and economic development of any country, and India is no exception. India currently faces a severe shortage of skilled workers as compared with other countries, and the accelerated economic growth has only increased the demand for skilled manpower.

Insight

The Green Climate Fund is to make a significant and ambitious contribution to global efforts towards attaining the goals set by the international community to respond to climate change. The Fund promotes a paradigm shift towards low-emission and climate-resilient development pathways by providing support to developing countries to limit or reduce their GHG emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change. It takes into account the needs of those developing countries that are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change. GCF is driven by innovation and targets its investments for transformational impact. It seeks to create new models for climate finance, channelling investment from both the public and private sector.

Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector has emerged as a highly vibrant and dynamic sector of the Indian economy over the last five decades. MSMEs not only play crucial role in providing large employment opportunities at comparatively lower capital cost than large industries but also help in industrialization of rural & backward areas, thereby, reducing regional imbalances, assuring more equitable distribution of national income and wealth.
